Learn Arabic!!

The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple, among his followers, gives not of his wisdom but rather of his faith and his lovingness. If he is indeed wise he does not bid you enter the house of wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.

Kahlil Gibran

Would you like to learn Arabic? Who wouldn't? You can do so by enrolling in Arabic classes at The Institute of Foreign Languages and Cultures within the Wang Center for International Business at the University of Memphis.

The Institute of Foreign Languages & Cultures was established by the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute (a state agency) and the Wang Center for International Business at The University of Memphis to promote, encourage, enhance and facilitate the learning and teaching of foreign languages and cultures for the economic, professional and educational enrichment of state government, its employees, the business community, foreign language educators and the citizens of Tennessee.

One of the most successful classes to date has been the conversational Arabic course taught by Hikmat Samaha of The University of Memphis. Regarding the first time the course was offered, the educational focus was on the beginning steps in learning to speak Lebanese Arabic. At the end of the course, all 8 students offered unanimous praise for Ms. Samaha's teaching and leadership. She has developed a winning teaching style and comprehensive course materials over many (to remain unsaid) years of tutoring Arabic.

The next beginning level course will be offered in early June. For more information, contact Rick Marcus at the Institute at 678-4834 or by e-mail at rmarcus@memphis.edu.

A quote from the Managing Director of the Foreign Language Program:

"Hikmat is a wonderful teacher and has worked hard to promote the class. She loves teaching."
