SOCIETY ELECTIONS

Every year, ASEE holds a National Election. There are 8 different offices that members are to cast their ballot for. The purpose of this page is to provide you with information about members of the Mechanical Engineering Division who are running for national office.

To: Mechanical Engineering Division Chair and Officers

From: B. K. Hodge
Candidate for ASEE PIC I Chair

By now you should have received the December issue of the ASEE Prism. Biographical sketches for the candidate for various ASEE positions, including the Chair of Professional Interest Council I (PIC I), are included in that issue. As a candidate for Chair of PIC I, I am sending this to officers of the various divisions in PIC I.

PIC I includes the following divisions: Aerospace Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Engineering Economy, Engineering Management, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, and Mechanical Engineering. Thus, PIC I represents a wide range of important disciplines and encompasses divisions with both large and small membership numbers. From a personal standpoint, I always find the ASEE Annual Conference and Exhibition to be an invigorating and re-charging event. At the heart of what is done in the ASEE are the divisions, and PIC I division membership includes a substantial portion of the engineering faculty in the United States that are ASEE members.

On the basic level, the PIC I chair is the conduit from the PIC I divisions to the ASEE Board of Directors for matters of concern to the divisions. Additionally, the PIC I chair serves to pass information from the Board to the PIC I division members via the PIC I business meeting at the ASEE Annual Conference and Exhibition and correspondence with division officers. This meeting is typically held on Sunday afternoon at the beginning of the Conference and is usually attended by division chairs and other interested division members. However, the efforts of the PIC I chair are more fruitful if a continuous dialog is maintained with division officers so that information may be passed to the Broad at all scheduled meetings, not just the Annual Conference. In PIC I we have been fortunate to have J. P. Mohsen and John Lamancusa as chairs the last few years. If elected I intend to follow in their paths to help the divisions in PIC I.

As a candidate I am soliciting your vote and support as Chair of PIC I. The short biographical sketch in the Prism delineates my participation in the ASEE at the national, division, and section levels. Divisions working together can certainly accomplish more than division working separately. If I become PIC I chair, I plan to enhance divisional cooperation and to maximize the effectiveness of the ASEE for PIC I divisions.

Please remind the members of your division to vote in the ASEE elections.
